Mesa firefighters responded to a fire in the kitchen at a newly renovated Burger King in northeast Mesa and were able to save most of the structure.
A Mesa Fire Department spokesman said firefighters responded to the blaze at 3 a.m. at the fast-food restaurant near McKellips and Recker roads.
The fire was contained to the kitchen area of the recently remodeled kitchen, which presented challenges to the fire crews on scene, according to a spokesperson.
The fire spokesman said any remodeling can alter the basic floorplan or materials that firefighters would expect to find in the building and change the way they attack the fire.
No one was injured in the fire and the cause remains under investigation, the statement said.
