Next year’s kindergartners and paying it backward… or forward

It may only be December, but it’s not too early for the parents of children who will enter kindergarten next year to learn more about the school that will welcome them next August.
“Kindergarten Roundups” are held at Scottsdale Unified School District’s elementary and K-8 schools in advance of the next school year. The next Roundups are coming up in January, followed by a final series in March. Learn more about your child’s school well ahead time to help make the transition to kindergarten easier – on everyone!
At Kindergarten Roundup, you will visit a kindergarten classroom, find out about the kindergarten curriculum and how your student will spend the school day, and meet school staff. Parent drop-off and pickup practices, attendance policies and lunch schedules will be shared, and you will find out how you can be involved in your child’s education and in the life of the school. You will also be able to register your child for the coming school year. We look forward to welcoming the Class of 2031 on August 7, 2018!
If you are the parent of a child who will not be 5 years old on or before August 31, 2018, but will turn 5 between September 1 and December 31, and you believe your child is ready for kindergarten, SUSD offers early entrance testing for a $75 fee in June and July. To find out more about kindergarten early entrance, call Lisa Duncan, SUSD Community Education, at 480-484-7932, or visit the SUSD website, susd.org.
It’s also the time of year when we all start thinking about filing income tax returns. SUSD has an excellent investment opportunity for you to consider: SUSD! By making a donation to a SUSD school or in the name of a SUSD student, you receive a dollar-for-dollar deduction off your state income tax liability. The limit is $200 for single filers and $400 for couples filing jointly. And you can apply that tax credit to either your 2017 tax bill or your 2018 tax bill. Tax credit donations help fund school activities such as field trips, tutoring, athletics and college entrance, college credit and CTE industry certification testing. You can make your donation by check or online by credit card; you can even set up recurring payments. SUSD appreciates your support! For more information, visit taxcredit.susd.org.
