The Arizona Museum of Natural History is encouraging young adults, adults and seniors with special needs to participate in a day of discovery. Two sessions are available on Wednesday, August 25, 2010: 10 a.m.-noon and 1 p.m.-3 p.m.
Equipped with an explorer’s map, each museum visitor will follow life-sized dinosaur tracks that will guide them through seven interactive learning stations located throughout the museum. Starting at the beginning of time in the new Origins exhibit, visitors will follow the trail stopping at various stations that will include Dinosaur Hall and panning for gold. The trail ends at the Discovery Lab where visitors will engage in various multi-sensory learning activities such as making fossils, exploring colors and spirals in nature and more, aimed to serve those who may have various physical or cognitive limitations.
The $6.oo per person cost includes museum admission. Pre-registration is required.

“Sizzling Hot Topics” is the theme of two upcoming classes presented by City of Mesa Neighborhood Services and The Leadership Centre. Both classes will be held at Fire Station 206, 815 N. Lindsay Road (Lindsay and Adobe) from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
• Wednesday, August 18 “Neighborhood Nuisances – how to manage the really tough issues like feral cats, pigeons and barking dogs”
• Wednesday, August 25 “Water Conservation – how to keep money from pouring down the drain”

The Leadership Centre is a non-profit 501(c)(3) that provides Arizona residents with information, resources and tools that create and support effective community partners. The focus of the public-private partnership is to empower all citizens to build better communities.
Mesa Parks and Recreation launched its newest adult sports league – kickball. Adults 18 and over can join in a season of double headers with a final kickball tournament this fall for all teams. Registration begins on Aug. 10 at 8 a.m. Cost is $300 per team with a maximum of 20 team players on the roster. The season starts on Tuesday, Sept.7 and will run for seven weeks. Games will be played at Kleinman Park, 850 W. Eighth Ave.
Mesa is also bringing back its women and co-ed volleyball league. The league will consist of three matches per night for seven weeks plus a single elimination tournament at the end of season for all teams. Registration begins on Aug. 10 at 8 a.m. Cost is $270 per team. The co-ed volleyball league will begin on Wednesday, Sept. 1 and games will be played at Webster Recreation Center, 202 N. Sycamore. The women’s volleyball league will begin on Thursday, Sept. 2 and games will be played at Broadway Recreation Center, 59 E. Broadway Road.
An eight-player flag football team returns this fall. Registration begins on Aug. 3 at 8 a.m. Cost is $475 per team. The season begins on Tuesday, Aug. 31 or Wednesday, Sept. 1 and will run for seven weeks. Games will be held at Riverview Sports Complex, 2100 W. Eighth St. or Red Mountain Sports Complex, 905 N. Sunvalley Blvd. Games will be 20-minute running halves and a post season tournament will be held for the top four teams.
