Fundraisers Planned to Support Lt. Eric Shuhandler Family

Tuesday, February 9 – The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Memorial Fund and Danny’s Family Car Wash at San Tan Marketplace will be holding a charity car wash to benefit the family of fallen Gilbert Police Lt. Eric Shuhandler. Lt. Shuhandler was shot and killed in the line of duty on January 28, 2010. He served the Gilbert police force for 16 years and leaves behind two young daughters, ages 10 and 12.
Free basic washes will be given from 7:30 am – 2:00 pm for a donation.
All proceeds will directly benefit the Shuhandler family.

Thursday, February 11 - Mesa’s 5 & Diner, 6353 E. Southern Ave. 480-641-1958  will be donating a portion of the day’s revenue to the family.  All you have to do is mention the families name.

Format: Two-man scramble *Limited to the first 116 players
12:00 noon; Shotgun start; Registration & silent auction will begin at 10am.

Featured author Fran Carlisi-Paxton will walk you through special events and occasions in your life to help you organize and to write those memories down on paper. LONGBOW GOLF CLUB TO HOST THE LONGBOW GOLF FEST ON JANUARY 30, 2010

Longbow Golf Club will host the sixth annual Longbow Golf Fest on Saturday, January 30, 2010, beginning at 9 a.m. This family-oriented community golf event features a variety of golf-related activities geared towards novice and expert golfers alike. And as an added bonus, the first 100 people in attendance will receive a complimentary ticket to the upcoming Waste Management Phoenix Open, February 22-28, 2010.

Among the offerings, golfers will be able to test (and purchase at preferred prices) the latest equipment from major golf equipment manufacturers such as Ping, Nike, Titleist, Cobra, TaylorMade, Adams and others. Longbow’s PGA professional staff will provide complimentary golf instructional throughout the day. Plus, a complimentary golf clinic geared towards junior golfers will be hosted by OB Sports Golf Academy’s instruction team, Jeff Fisher and Stacie Bryan. This particular clinic will provide a great way for parents and prospective students to learn more about the academy’s innovative instruction philosophy that can help them reach their potential within the game of golf.

“We are looking forward to hosting the sixth annual Longbow Golf Fest,” said Jay Larscheid, general manager for Longbow Golf Club. “The point of the event is to engage people in the game in a way, other than the traditional round of golf, that leads to an enhanced appreciation, participation and enjoyment of the game.”

A raffle featuring great prizes (and benefiting junior golf) will be held throughout the day. Last year’s event raised much needed funds for area junior golf programs. Tenth Annual Art on the Move to Raise Money for Arts Education and Community Events at Mesa Arts Center

Spring Cleaning Forum in Gilbert

Spring is on its way, a time known for cleaning out closets and clutter. There is a different kind of clean-up Gilbert residents can also do to make their lives healthier and happier, with the help of Town experts who will offer their tips and ideas at a free 6 p.m. February 2 forum.

The forum will be televised and held at Town Hall, and is free and open to the public. It will feature ways to go green using free Town services. Make the most of our unique Town recycling services that allow you to recycle glass, aluminum and paper – as well as even hazardous wastes, or computers.

Did you know Gilbert offered a white trash pickup for appliances? Or that you could recycle your cooking grease to be used as fuel? The forum can answer all your questions about how to be an advocate for the environment, from the comfort of your home – all while saving money.

Residents can learn how to save big on their water bills, inside and out. Experts will answer questions on how the town’s upcoming General Plan features environmentally friendly incentives, and how an environmental task force is working to promote our green programs in Town.
